Meeting the Needs of Homeless Children
The Children’s Services Program

Dayspring assists at least 300 homeless children of all ages every year.  We recognize that addressing the needs of homeless children today requires more than just warm meals, a safe place to sleep and return to school. Without the intervention of intensive support services at this young age, homeless children are less likely to acquire the tools they need to reach their full potential and  avoid the path of poverty in their future.

The Children’s Services Program is an extension of Dayspring’s core mission services and is tailored solely for the children that grace our doors. The Children’s Services Program offers targeted programs and staff to address the unique psychological needs of homeless children. Children are thoroughly assessed for their physical and emotional health. Conditions and circumstances impeding their physical, emotional, behavioral and/or cognitive development are flagged as “areas of concern” and addressed with individualized attention and/or services.

Additionally, children’s programming includes weekday after-school tutoring, therapeutic activities arts and crafts, birthday celebrations and a 6-week summer camp program, Camp Discovery. The Children’s Services Program provides a highly intensive approach to assisting children as they cope and overcome the adverse effects of their family ‘s homelessness.
